It’s that time of year. Access Health CT’s (AHCT) Open Enrollment for health and dental insurance runs from October 23, 206 to January 15, 2027. This is your opportunity to shop, compare and enroll in a health or dental plan or change your current plan(s) for 2027.
Whether you’re enrolling for the first time or renewing existing coverage, we have the information you need to explore your options.
Deadlines
- If you enroll on or before December 15, 2026, your insurance will start January 1, 2027.
- If you enroll between December 16, 2026, and January 15, 2027, your coverage will start February 1, 2027.
A Wide Range of Options
All plans offered through Access Health CT are from insurance companies you recognize. Most plans are categorized by metal level.
This year, we have from high-quality insurance carriers to choose from, categorized by metal level:
- Gold plans have the highest monthly costs (premiums), but the lowest costs when you use your plan.
- Silver plans have moderate premiums and moderate costs when you use your plan. They also have the most financial help.
- Bronze Plans have the lowest monthly premiums, but the highest costs when you use your plan. You can also pair a Bronze Plan with a Health Savings Account (HSA) which is another way to control your health costs.
Some people may also be able to enroll in a catastrophic plan. These plans have low monthly premiums, but high deductibles and out-of-pocket costs. You must be 30 years old or younger to enroll in this plan or receive a hardship determination from Access Health CT. Catastrophic plans can be used with a Health Savings Account (HSA).
Essential Health Benefits Are Included
All standard health plans offered through AHCT provide coverage for 10 Essential Health Benefits. This means you’ll have coverage for emergency room care, hospitalization, prescription drugs, mental health services, and more. These services are an essential part of making sure you get the care you need when you need it. Learn more about Essential Health Benefits. (opens in a new window)
Dental Insurance
Most health plans offered through Access Health CT include pediatric dental coverage for anyone under 26 years old. Some plans offer limited dental coverage for adults. You can also choose to enroll in a Stand-Alone Dental Plan for you or your family. You can have dental insurance through Access Health CT, even if you don’t have a health plan or if you’re on Medicare.
Financial Help Is Available
Worried about the costs of health insurance? You’re not alone. Financial help is available. You may be able to lower the amount you pay monthly to your health insurance company (premium) and the expenses not paid by your insurance company (like your deductible, copayment or coinsurances).
As Connecticut’s official health insurance marketplace, Access Health CT is the only place where you can qualify for financial help to lower your costs. You may qualify for low-cost or free coverage through HUSKY Health Programs (Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)) or the Covered CT Program. Eight out of 10 AHCT customers qualify for some type of financial help.
