Did you know Access Health CT offers health insurance for businesses? Whether you’re a small business with just a few full-time employees or larger organization, Access Health CT can help you explore health insurance options for your team.
Access Health CT BusinessPlus was created specifically for Connecticut businesses. It makes it easy to set up benefits and manage employee enrollments. It also gives certain businesses two types of coverage models to choose from, depending on the size of your company.
Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA)
One way businesses can help their employees get the health insurance they need is through an offer of an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA). Employers determine a monthly contribution amount and employees who accept the offer of an ICHRA can then apply that contribution toward the cost of an individual health insurance plan, including plans available through Access Health CT.
An ICHRA gives employers greater control over their costs and predictability. That’s because businesses can define how much they want to contribute, instead of having to commit to a set percentage of a group plan premium.
Employees also get more flexibility. They can choose the health insurance plan that works best for them. Employees can choose from individual health plans offered through Access Health CT, giving them more flexibility than a traditional arrangement with a limited selection of group plans.
ICHRAs can be a good option for:
- All businesses. There’s no limitation on how many employees you have or minimum employee participation requirement.
- Businesses with diverse workforces and needs. Employees can choose a health plan that works best for their own health situation.
- Businesses who are looking to attract and retain top talent. Especially in competitive markets, the ability to offer health insurance can be a big draw for employees.
Starting in 2027, eligible Connecticut businesses who have 50 or fewer full-time employees may be able to qualify for a tax credit of up to $1,000 each year for each employee enrolled in an ICHRA. Businesses need to set up their ICHRA through Access Health CT BusinessPlus and employees will need to accept their employer’s offer of an ICHRA for the company to qualify. The program is expected to be available for two years. The state has set aside $5 million for the program, which means tax credits will be available on a first come first served basis.
Small Group Health Plans
If your business has 50 or fewer full-time employees, you can choose to offer your employees a small group health plan. Companies can choose to offer all their employees the same plan or give them the option to choose one of multiple health insurance plans offered specifically for small businesses. Employers can determine how much they want to contribute toward employee premiums, and employees pay any remaining applicable amount.
Small group health plans can be a good option for:
- Companies that want to support their employees through enrollment. You’ll take on more of the administrative tasks, narrow down the plan options for your employees and save your team from navigating the different small group plan offerings.
- Business owners who would feel more comfortable communicating and managing a more traditional benefit model where the whole team is on the same plan.
- Businesses looking to attract and retain top talent. Especially in competitive markets, offering health insurance can be a big draw for employees.
