There is a Special Enrollment Period for eligible customers to enroll and get access to new financial help from the state of Connecticut. Read this before you enroll.

Every year, Access Health CT offers health plans from high-quality insurance carriers for you to choose from. They’re categorized by metal level. Bronze Plans usually have the lowest monthly costs, but you’ll typically pay more when you use them. Gold Plans have higher monthly costs but lower out-of-pocket costs. With so many choices, it is important to know how to shop for the insurance plan that best meets your health care needs.

Shopping for Coverage

To shop for health insurance, visit the Compare Plans page on AccessHealthCT.com. You can enter your doctors, prescriptions and the medical services you expect to use and then view your plan options.  

As you compare insurance options, ask yourself the following questions. They’ll help you focus on the options that will serve you best:

  1. Are your doctors in the insurance plan’s network?
  2. Are your prescriptions covered?
  3. Are the services you need covered?
  4. How much are the premium (monthly bills) and copayments (amount you pay when you get care)?
  5. What is the out-of-pocket maximum? This is the maximum you’ll pay in a year. Your insurance company will pay for the rest of any covered services once you’ve paid the out-of-pocket maximum.

Review each plan’s coverage document to make sure the plan has what you need. Complete coverage documents are available for every plan we offer. This makes it easier to compare plans before you sign up. After you enroll, you can look back at these documents anytime in your Consumer Account. You should also check the insurance companies’ websites for the most up-to-date information about the doctors and prescription drugs they cover.
