These are just a few of the ways former Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman will be remembered. She passed away on August 12, 2026, at age 80 after decades of service to the State of Connecticut. It was her leadership and dedication to helping people live healthier lives that led to the creation of Access Health CT. She served as Access Health CT’s first board chair until leaving office in 2019.“Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman lived our mission every day. Her efforts helped Connecticut cut our uninsurance rate in half. She was instrumental in making sure everyone in the state has access to affordable, quality healthcare,” said James Michel, CEO of Access Health CT.

Nancy WymanWyman made Access Health CT a model for other states. Her work contributed to Connecticut having one of the most successful rollouts of the Affordable Care Act of any state in the nation. Connecticut was quickly recognized nationally as a leader. In 2015, Wyman was awarded the National Lieutenant Governors Association award for her work to create Access Health CT.

“She was a tireless advocate for all things Connecticut and, in particular, she made healthcare her personal crusade, working to develop policies that ensure everyone in Connecticut has access to affordable, quality healthcare services,” said Governor Ned Lamont in response to news of former Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman’s passing.

Former Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman fought tirelessly for better healthcare and helped make Access Health CT what it is today. Even as the state’s second in command, she was a hands-on leader, partnering closely with Access Health CT staff and bringing her wit, warmth and trademark stiletto heels into every challenge. Her leadership has improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of Connecticut residents. Her remarkable legacy will continue to help hundreds of thousands more in the years to come.
